How to Measure a Box
As simple as it may sound. This topic sometimes causes confusion. There are many terms used: length, width, height, depth, breadth, long, wide, short and tall... Yes we have heard them all. And some even more bizarre!
However there is an industry recognised way of measuring a box and its the same way we use. That is Length, Width and Height also expressed as L,W,H.
Also something else that deserves a mention:
Top is referred to as the point of entry and closure of the box. In other words "the end where the flaps meet"
Base is the end opposite the top.
For the most accurate measurements we recommend you use a tape measure.
So now you know the terms here is a little explanation of each:
Length
With the box sitting on its base this is the longest horizontal measurement
Width
With the box sitting on its base this is the shortest horizontal measurement
Height
Again with the box sitting on its base this is the measurement from its base to the top
Units of measurements (Inches ", Centimetres CM, Millimetres MM)
The industry today mostly uses millimetres but we recognise that some people prefer otherwise. Most businesses will be able to work in all types and easily convert measurements for the own working
There is some simple math that can be done to easily convert and is as follows:
Inches to millimetres and vice versa:
Take your measurement in inches then multiple this by 100 and with your answer divide that by 4.
Example: 10" x 100 = 1000 divide by 4 = 250 mm
In reverse.
250 mm x 4 = 1000 divide by 100 = 10"
Inches to Centimetres and vice versa
Its as simple as using the above calculation but this time we use 10 as the multiplier
Example: 10" x 10 = 100 divide by 4 = 25 cm
In reverse.
25 cm x 4 = 100 divide by 10 = 10"
